nyc bake sale 2013
With perfect spring weather, it felt like one of those weekends when everything could go right–especially for a charity bake sale. Lillian and I had planned NYC Bake Sale for quite some time and finally, the day came for all the details to align.
Lillian, the volunteers, and I gathered at Brooklyn Flea bright and early to set up the booth for the day. Flea’s vendors hovered about checking out the goods way before we finished with the display, mainly looking for something to go with their morning coffee. We were delighted to oblige and to have them spread the news of our bake sale to their customers.
With everyone’s effort, it was a smooth set-up operation, and we promptly welcomed customers at 10 a.m. The day blurred by as we sold every contribution from food bloggers, baking enthusiasts, bakeries, and cookie designers.
Having learned from last years mistakes, I managed to buy a stash of baked goods early on, so I won’t go home empty handed–boy did I score some incredible treats.
Though the baked goods were wonderful, the best reward was a day of camaraderie with fellow bloggers and volunteers bringing the positive energy to make a difference to end childhood hunger through the No Kid Hungry® Campaign.
My sincere gratitude to all volunteers, sponsors, and especially Lillian who made this event a success. As the cookies disappear one by one, I look forward to seeing everyone next spring.
Ken, the images you have shared are wonderful and show such an amazing event. You are such a caring, generous person. Lucky those who went and could support this wonderful cause!
Thank you Jamie for those kind words. I’m the lucky one who gets to do my share for charity and the community. xo Ken
Well done Ken!
Great pics as always, Ken! Especially love the one of Angela and Gaia. Great time as always and so glad the weather keeps working with the bake sale dates.
Y’alls did an AMAZING job again. [Throwing confetti your way!]
Great pics! You really captured the event well! Great to meet everyone this weekend, I really look forward to the next get together!

This is wonderful that you generously hosted an event for a great cause as well as the volunteers who donated their goods. I admire people who give back to the community regardless of how big or small it may be. I heard about this event through others and didn’t realize Lillian was a huge part of it either (recently just “met” her via IG). Would you be hosting another bake sale or another event in the near future?
Hi Connie, Lillian and I have been doing NYC Bake Sale for 2 years now and most likely we’ll do it again next year. I do put together food blogger events for the tri-state area, so bloggers and friends can all get together for some real time fun. I’ll announce those info on this blog as well as Twitter and other social media. You can check out my posts on CNY Potluck, Pie Party, Cookie Swap and more on here.
Happy Baking!
Ken
Hello Ken, great event for a great cause! I’ve discovered your site while trying to find out more on organizing charity bake sales (I’m a blogger as well!). Do you have suggestions as to how to find a venue (does the Brooklyn Flea offer their space for free to your charity sale?). Any help would be appreciated!
Hi Kelly, I did not personally organized the event space for the bake sale, so I am not sure about the details. However, you can present your charity event to the manager of the spaces you want and see what they can accommodate. It really depends on the timing of your event for them to determine if it’s feasibility. Best of luck. -Ken
