nyc bake sale
I’ve got a secret–tomorrow, Saturday April 2, is my very first bake sale. This week’s Online Bake Sale was a great cause, but an online experience isn’t the same as meeting buyers in person and chatting about foodie things.
The in-person NYC Bake Sale for Japan will take place at the Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene at 176 Lafayette Ave. (btwn Clermnot + Vanderbilt Ave). The sale is scheduled for 10a-5p or until sold out. All proceeds goes to Peace Wind America, providing emergency relief for disaster victims in northeast Japan. Thanks to Lillian Huang of sweets by sillianah and Celia of Cookbook Archaeology for organizing this wonderful event.
Since a bake sale is such an American ritual, my approach is casual comfort American desserts. If you can’t go wrong with chocolate, does that mean you’re even more right when you pile it on? Chocolate Cherry “Brownie” Cookies are loaded with rich dark chocolate flavors, with cherries to add bursts of tartness. The texture is compact and almost brownie-like.
Also coming are the Devilish Delights that I made last year for Halloween. I also brought these as gifts to the Foodbuzz Festival for my online friends that I met for the first time in person. These bar cookies have chocolate, pecans, toffee, coconut, and more.
How often do you get to sample all the fantastic treats that you only read online? If you live in New York, please come and support us. Buy freshly baked cookies, cakes and confections–and support the people of Japan.
The cookies look gorgeous. Love the effort being put in for a great cause. I only wish I could come for your bake sale tomorrow.
Love,
An

Hi Ken,
Who won your caramel pecan kisses because so far, I don’t think I did? I guess I’ll have to use your recipe and attempt them myself…

I guess I missed the sale. I bet it was yummy! I love the crackly sheen on these cookies. GREG
I feel an awful pest, but I keep coming back here two or three times a day to find the recipe. Any chance? I know I could put some dried cherries into any brownie mix, but this one looks so special. Thanks so much, if you have the time.
Thank you Jake for the continuing interest. I promise I will post the recipe soon. Hope you can hang in there for just a little longer. -Ken
